How to Play Private Game

Private Game is an intimate card game for couples with 600+ cards across five intensity tiers. A single session takes 20–45 minutes and moves through three phases — Connection, Exploration and Passion — to deepen the conversation and closeness between partners.

How to play — step by step

  1. Open Private Game on your phone or TV

Visit private-game.app in any modern browser — no app store install needed. Open it on one phone for a single-device session, or cast to your TV using display mode for a shared-screen experience.

  2. Choose your mood & session length

Pick Quick (15 cards) or Classic (22 cards). Then set your tier ceiling: Spark and Warmth for a flirty evening, Heat and above for something more. You can also choose a mood like Romantic, Playful or Intense.

  3. Pass the phone (or use shared-screen mode) and take turns drawing cards

Each turn, the active player draws a card and follows its prompt. Pass the phone between turns — or let your TV screen show the card while both of you use your phones to control the session.

  4. Answer questions, do tasks and dares, and deepen through the tiers

Cards move through three phases — Connection, Exploration and Passion — gradually building intimacy. Questions spark conversation, Tasks and Dares create shared moments, Duets bring you closer together.

  5. Finish with aftercare & the wish reveal

After the final card, both players rate how the session felt and can share a brief note. If scores are tied, both wishes are revealed together. If not, the winner reveals theirs first.

The five card types

Question
An open-ended prompt that invites you both to share something honest, playful or revealing.
Task
A physical or creative activity one player does — fun, tactile, and designed to create a shared moment.
Dare
A bold invitation that pushes a little further — something to try that you might not normally suggest.
Duet
An activity both partners do at the same time, shifting the energy from turn-taking to togetherness.
Wildcard
A surprise card that can break the pattern, introduce something unexpected, or reset the mood.

The three phases

Every Private Game session moves through three consecutive phases, each building on the last. Connection opens the evening with lighter, conversational cards that ease you into playfulness together. Exploration gradually raises the stakes — prompts become more personal, physical, and revealing. Passion is the final stretch, where the session reaches its most intimate and intense cards before closing with aftercare.

The phase boundaries happen automatically based on card position — you never have to manage the arc manually.

Choosing your intensity

Private Game uses five tiers — Spark, Warmth, Heat, Fire and Inferno — to let you set your own ceiling. You choose the highest tier you want to include before each session, and the deck is built accordingly.

For the full breakdown of what each tier contains and how they differ, see our tier guide.

Playing on one phone vs your TV

The default mode is pass-the-phone: one device handles everything and you hand it back and forth between turns — no second device needed.

In Shared-screen mode, a second device (a TV, laptop or tablet) shows the cards in full screen while each player uses their own phone as a controller. The two devices stay in sync over a private WebSocket room, so no one has to squint at a small screen or pass anything around.

Aftercare & the wish reveal

After the final card, the game moves into an aftercare screen. Each player independently rates how the session felt across a few dimensions and can leave an optional note — a moment to reflect before the evening winds down.

The wish reveal follows: at the start of a session, each player sets a secret wish for the evening. Once ratings are submitted, session scores are compared. If the scores are tied, both wishes are revealed at the same time. If one player has a higher score, their wish is revealed first — the other's only opens by mutual consent.

Frequently asked questions

Is Private Game free?
Yes — the free version includes one complete game made up of the Spark and Warmth tiers, with a teaser from Heat. Unlock the full Heat, Fire and Inferno catalog with a one-time purchase or a weekly subscription. Themed packs are sold separately.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Private Game runs in any modern browser at private-game.app and can be installed to your phone's home screen as a Progressive Web App.
How many players are there?
One or more — Private Game is built for self-discovery, for couples, and for people who like to experiment as a group, played on a single phone or shared TV screen in the same room.
What's on the cards?
600+ cards across five intensity tiers: Spark (icebreakers), Warmth (flirty and sensual), Heat (sexual but soft), Fire (explicit) and Inferno (most intense). Card types include Questions, Tasks, Dares, Duets and Wildcards. You set your tier ceiling at the start of a session, but you can soften or skip any card at any moment.
Is the content explicit?
The higher tiers are explicit and adult. Players choose a tier ceiling at the start of each session — keep it at Spark or Warmth for a flirty evening, push to Fire or Inferno for explicit play. The first-session age gate restricts access to 18+.
What languages are supported?
English, Dutch (Nederlands) and French (Français). The language can be switched per session.
Can we play on a TV?
Yes. Shared-screen mode lets one phone act as the controller while a second device — a tablet, laptop or smart TV — shows the cards in full screen. Both devices stay in sync over a private WebSocket room. Ideal for a couch session without passing a phone back and forth.
How do we choose how intense it gets?
Before each session you pick a tier ceiling. Staying at Spark and Warmth keeps things flirty and sensual. Raising it to Heat, Fire or Inferno unlocks progressively more intense cards. You can change the ceiling at the start of every new session — there is no pressure to go further than you are both comfortable with.
